Massive growth opportunities predicted as SA Govt releases the long-awaited revised critical skills list

The SA government has finally released the long-awaited revised critical skills list. The revised list clearly reflects President Cyril Ramaphosa’s drive to remove structural obstacles to economic growth in South Africa, including the dire shortages of certain categories of high-level skills that are required by both local and international investors wishing to invest in the country.
The President’s initiative to remove structural constraints to growth, called Operation Vulindlela, includes the issuing of a revised critical skills list which better suits the needs of investors, as well as a comprehensive review of the legal and regulatory frameworks for work visas in South Africa.
The aim of the reforms is to make it easier and quicker for investors to obtain the key skills they require, which are not available in South Africa.
Now that an improved critical skills list has been issued, we eagerly await the release of the review of the entire framework for work visas in South Africa, which we hope will similarly create a more conducive environment for growth and investment, and remove some of the unnecessary bureaucracy which is currently making it difficult for businesses to bring in the scarce skills they require.
